Special features: For the smoky variant "St. Kilian PEATED - rich & smoky," heavily peated barley malt from the Scottish Highlands with a phenol content of 54 ppm is used. This single malt whisky matures 70% in various ex-bourbon casks and 30% in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. The result is a whisky with intense aromas of grilled apricots, creamy toffee, and subtle oak spice, enveloped in warming peat smoke.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: A seductive fruit bouquet of grilled apricots, juicy pears, and ripe bananas, refined with sweet vanilla and a splash of lime, enveloped in mild peat smoke and complemented by dry ash tones with cooling mint.
- Palate: Full-bodied, sweet, and fruit-forward with vanilla, apricots, and pears, harmoniously united with creamy toffee and delicate peat smoke that elegantly highlights the warming oak spice, accompanied by a pinch of white pepper and fresh mint.
- Finish: Comfortingly warming with creamy fruit compote and dark toffee, long-lasting accompanied by ashy smoke and a subtle, dry oak spice.
Distillery/Bottler: St. Kilian Distillers GmbH, founded in 2016, is the first German whisky distillery to produce single malt whisky entirely according to Scottish tradition. It is located in Rüdenau in Lower Franconia on the edge of the Odenwald. The vision of founder Andreas Thümmler to establish a German distillery modeled after Scottish standards has been successfully implemented here.
