Talisker Distillers Edition combines the distillery’s smoky, maritime style with a second maturation in Amoroso casks. The whisky first matures in previously used American and European oak casks. It is then finished in re-charred American oak casks seasoned with Amoroso and fitted with new, heavily re-charred cask ends. This cask influence adds a rounder, fruity sweetness without displacing the dry peat smoke and peppery spice.

The Distillers Edition series has been released annually in limited quantities since 1997. Its casks are individually selected to suit each single malt. This Talisker bottling has an alcohol content of 45.8% and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres, with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is distinctive and maritime: sea air and seaweed meet smoke, sweet malt and the sweetness of sultanas.
• Palate: The whisky feels full-bodied, oily and soft on the palate. Smoke and salt combine with sweet fruit, while pepper and woody spice quickly build. Roasted figs and sweet dates are accompanied throughout by peat smoke and sea salt. A gently integrated chilli heat emerges when swallowing.
• Finish: The long, powerful finish is initially sweet and becomes increasingly dry. Peat smoke and cocoa notes persist.

Distillery/Bottler:

Talisker stands on Loch Harport on the Isle of Skye. Brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill founded the distillery in 1830; it is the island’s oldest operating distillery. After a fire in 1960, the destroyed stillhouse was rebuilt with exact replicas of the former stills. Distinctive technical features include U-shaped connecting pipes and traditional worm tubs for condensing the vapours from distillation. This equipment contributes to the distinctive texture and distillery character.
