Quercus Alba Distinction Limited Release 03 is a Speyside single malt matured entirely in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks made from American white oak and bottled at 48%. The Distinction series highlights the lighter vanilla and fruit notes associated with this type of oak.

The wood for these casks comes from North American oak forests. In Spain’s Sherry Triangle, it is air-dried and toasted before the casks are seasoned with Oloroso sherry. Making the casks takes more than six years before they are sent to Speyside for maturation. In Release 03, this approach is reflected in butter biscuits, vanilla, plum, chocolate and fresh mint, accompanied by gentle sherry-seasoned oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, butter biscuits and vanilla cream mingle with oak and citrus peel, while peppermint adds a cool accent.
• Palate: The whisky is smooth and mouth-filling on the palate. A pronounced yet gentle oak character coats the mouth, while ripe plum and chocolate orange bring a lightly tart freshness.
• Finish: Sherry-seasoned oak, dark cherries and honeycomb carry the long, warming finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tamdhu Distillery was founded by local entrepreneurs on the banks of the River Spey in 1897. Following a period of closure, Ian Macleod Distillers acquired the distillery in 2012 and reopened it in 2013. Tamdhu produces its whisky in Speyside, and its single malts are matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks. This edition is an official distillery bottling.
