Special Features:

The Final Release concludes the TB/BSW series with a nine-year-old Blended Scotch. Despite this age statement, a substantial proportion of the batch consists of 15-year-old whisky from an undisclosed Speyside distillery. Thompson Bros bottles this naturally coloured, non-chill-filtered release at 45% in 0.7-litre bottles.

The TB/BSW series began with a chance encounter with a parcel of sherry-seasoned casks. After the first release, the remaining whisky rested in wood for several more years. In this final bottling, the additional maturation is also reflected in notes of old leather and mahogany polish. The series’ heavy, oily sherry profile combines plum, orange liqueur, sultanas and dates with marzipan, dark chocolate and dry baking spices.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Plum takes centre stage on the nose. Soft, rounded oak opens into orange liqueur, plump sultanas, orange peel and date pudding. A richly baked orange and almond cake and fresh grapefruit complete the profile.
• Palate: The whisky is juicy and distinctly heavy on the palate, carried by natural resins and oils. Passion fruit coulis, custard tart and white grape juice transition into almond oil, marzipan and sticky Medjool dates. Dried orange slices coated in dark chocolate, a suggestion of aged rum, cinnamon and star anise round out the palate.
• Finish: The finish is long and rich. Gentle oak char slowly fades with dry baking spices of clove, nutmeg and mace, leaving dark muscovado sugar behind.

Distillery/Bottler:

Phil and Simon Thompson initially developed the whisky bar at the Dornoch Castle Hotel. A successful crowdfunding campaign subsequently led to the creation of Dornoch Distillery, whose first new make was filled into casks in 2017. While the distillery was still being established, the brothers began independently bottling rum and whisky; this business supported the operation while their own whisky matured.

TB/BSW has been part of Thompson Bros.’ core range since 2022. Thompson Bros bottles the Final Release as a Blended Scotch, bringing the series to a close.
