Special Features:

Savu pairs gentle peat smoke with maturation in bourbon and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Teerenpeli distils it from malt with a peat level of around 30 ppm and uses local groundwater. The cask composition is 80% bourbon casks and 20% PX sherry casks. This proportion was chosen following blind tastings with brand ambassadors and trade fair visitors.

Savu was the distillery’s first smoky whisky in its regular range. Despite the peated malt, its character remains balanced: fresh fruit and malty sweetness meet smoke and a salty spice reminiscent of salmiak. The single malt is offered at 43% in a 0.5-litre bottle with gift packaging; it is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose shows fresh fruit and light smoke, alongside fresh barley and a hint of butterscotch and oak.
• Palate: Savu feels soft and balanced on the palate. Malty sweetness and smoke contrast with a salty salmiak note, joined by liquorice and a little white pepper.
• Finish: The spices recede on the finish, while liquorice and sweetness linger alongside smoke and an ashy note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Anssi Pyysing founded Teerenpeli in Lahti in 1994; today, he and Marianne Pyysing own the family business. Whisky production began there in 2002. The distillery started in a city-centre restaurant and opened a larger production site on the outskirts in 2015. It uses Scottish-made pot stills for distillation. Jaakko Joki oversees whisky production, from selecting the malt to choosing the casks for bottling. Savu is an original Teerenpeli bottling.
