Special features: The Islay Rum Company Islay Rum has been produced since 2022 as the first and only distillery rum on the Isle of Islay. The distillery is located in the former lemonade factory in Port Ellen. This rum matures in oak barrels that were previously used for heavily peated Islay single malt Scotch whisky. This maturation gives it a smoky character and nuanced aromas. The product comes in a handy 50 ml bottle and has an alcohol content of 46% vol.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose reveals light smoke, green bananas, caramel, and hints of leather.
- Palate: On the palate, sweet vanilla presents itself with salty caramel, accompanied by light smoke and estery tropical fruits. A slightly medicinal character and a salty coastal note add complexity.
- Finish: The finish is mouth-filling and long-lasting, with memories of aged spirits.
Distillery/Bottler: The Islay Rum Company is known for its innovative approach to rum production on Islay. Since 2022, rum has been produced in Port Ellen in the former Old Lemonade Factory. The use of ex-Islay whisky barrels imparts the rum with the distinctive smoky note that runs through the entire product line. This rum thus represents a successful blend of tradition and reinterpretation of the art of distillation.
