Special Features:

Geal showcases Islay's rum production without cask ageing. This white Pure Single Rum is made in small batches, drawing on rum traditions from Haiti, Jamaica and the French Antilles. Its Gaelic name means, among other things, white, clear and pure. The miniature contains 0.05 litres of rum at 45% alcohol.

The distillery uses sustainably sourced molasses, which is fermented with water and yeast. Geal remains unaged, so its character is not shaped by subsequent maturation in casks. Smoke is also part of Geal's character. This full-bodied rum is suitable for tasting neat or in a classic Daiquiri.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, butterscotch and green banana peel mingle with light citrus notes.
• Palate: The palate reveals tropical fruit and green banana once more. Fresh herbal and mineral notes are joined by a subtle malt biscuit note.
• Finish: The finish is light, fresh and fruity.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Islay Rum Company produces its rum in Port Ellen, in the former Hastie's Lemonade factory. The restored Art Deco building stands between Kilnaughton Bay and the Borraichill. Its conversion into Islay's first rum distillery was completed in January 2022. Hastie Construction was appointed to carry out the restoration. Company head Scott Hastie is a descendant of the family that built the original factory.

Head Distiller Ben Inglis designed the copper pot still with two retorts, which was built by Speyside Copper Works in Scotland. The downstream retorts produce an effect comparable to triple distillation within a single distillation run. The distillery runs entirely on electricity from renewable sources and uses a closed-loop cooling water system. It also reuses a substantial proportion of the liquid remaining after distillation in the next fermentation. This saves water and heat energy while also influencing flavour development.
