Special Features:

The Jewel of Namibia combines Namibian brandy with a finish in casks previously used for the estate’s own fortified wine, Gravino. The spirit is distilled several times, then matures for five years in French oak casks before being finished in Gravino casks. Its maturation thus draws on two products from Erongo Mountain Winery: wine as the raw material for the spirit, and fortified wine as the previous contents of the finishing casks.

Bottled at 40% alcohol, it has a distinctly fruity character with sweet and spicy accents. It contains no added colouring and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense notes of ripe cherries and plums lead on the nose. Sweet vanilla accompanies the dark fruit, with caramel adding a subtle accent.
• Palate: Cherry and plum feel juicy on the palate. Soft vanilla notes and creamy caramel join them, with spice complementing the flavours.
• Finish: Sweet fruit notes and a balanced woody note linger through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Erongo Mountain Winery lies near Omaruru, beside the river of the same name, at an altitude of 1,200 metres and surrounded by the mountains of the Erongo region. The Namibian wine estate combines winemaking with its own distillery, which produces Ondjaba Whiskey as well as The Jewel.

The range also includes Gravino, a fortified wine made from lightly fermented wine and wine distillate. This connection between wine and spirits continues in the use of casks: Gravino casks are used to finish The Jewel, while casks that previously held this brandy are subsequently used for Ondjaba Whiskey.
