Special Features:

For Full Noise, Thomson smokes exclusively New Zealand barley malt over mānuka wood. The whisky then matures in former bourbon casks made of American oak and is bottled at 52% cask strength. This limited release puts the mānuka smoke firmly in the foreground.

Alongside the smoke are cinnamon, clove and cardamom, as well as oak and dried herbs. Vanilla, caramel and toasted oak add to the spicy profile. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, mānuka wood smoke and essential-oil-like mānuka notes mingle with cinnamon and clove, with a subtle hint of cardamom.
• Palate: On the palate, cinnamon bark and oak meet gentle smoke and delicate herbal oils.
• Finish: The medium-length finish brings together dry oak spice, gentle smoke and a hint of clove.

Distillery/Bottler:

Mathew and Rachael Thomson began bottling New Zealand whisky independently in 2009. Since 2014, Thomson has operated its own distillery in Riverhead, northwest of Auckland. There, Thomson mashes barley malt from New Zealand’s South Island; the distillery uses a 1,900-litre copper wash still and a 1,000-litre copper pot still for distillation. Thomson prepares its casks on site; alongside former bourbon casks, the distillery’s general cask stock includes former New Zealand wine casks.
