First-fill sherry puncheon #6812 shapes this single-cask release from the Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength series. Distilled at Tomatin in 1993, the single malt matured in the cask for 30 years. Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky on 17 April 2024 at 58.4%, yielding 502 bottles. It is presented in a wooden box.

Wild berries and red apple meet peanut brittle; mandarin, brown sugar, sultanas, blackcurrant jam and ginger emerge on the palate. Mature oak remains present in the spicy finish. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Wild berries, peanut brittle and red apple come together on the nose. Butterscotch is followed by citrus peel and malt biscuits.
• Palate: On the palate, mandarin and clove sit alongside brown sugar and sultanas. Blackcurrant jam and ginger spice then emerge.
• Finish: The finish is full and spicy, with mature oak lingering for a long time.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in the Highlands in 1897, Tomatin grew for a time into Scotland’s largest malt distillery during the 1970s. It predominantly produces a sweet, fruity Highland style, alongside a smaller quantity of peated whisky. This single malt was distilled at Tomatin in 1993.

Gordon & MacPhail has operated in Elgin since 1895. George Urquhart established Connoisseurs Choice in the 1960s to make single malts from different Scottish distilleries available in their own right. For the series, the independent bottler selects whiskies, matures them and bottles them to bring out the character of each distillery. Gordon & MacPhail also bottled this Tomatin for Connoisseurs Choice.
