Sound of Sleat Batch Strength presents the fourth chapter of the Torabhaig Legacy Series at 60.2% and with greater intensity. The bottling takes its name from the strait behind the distillery that separates Skye from the Scottish mainland. The whisky matured for five to six years exclusively in American white oak: 75% in first-fill bourbon casks, 20% in new, freshly toasted oak casks and 5% in refill bourbon casks.

Torabhaig uses malted Concerto and Laureate barley with a phenol level of more than 78 ppm in the malt. Following a 72-hour fermentation with Pinnacle MG+ yeast, 19 ppm of phenols remain in the bottled whisky. This production method shapes the powerful coastal smoke, accompanied by toasted oak, spice, salted honey and charred stone fruit.

The bottling is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. The label artwork was created by local artist Ellis O'Connor.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines powerful smoke, brine and sweet oak spice. Behind the peat smoke are subtler notes of aromatic tobacco, orange candy, apricot and seaweed.
• Palate: On the palate, lively oak spice and campfire embers meet a waxy texture. Sweet vanilla, white pepper and a hint of spicy smoke complement the powerful yet balanced impression.
• Finish: The finish is long and clearly structured. A youthful, fiery opening gives way to lingering spice, paprika and a distinct coastal note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Torabhaig Distillery was established in a restored old farm building on the Sleat Peninsula and is the second licensed distillery on the Isle of Skye. Its bespoke copper stills and Douglas fir washbacks were installed in 2016, and spirit production began there in 2017. Through the limited releases in its Legacy Series, Torabhaig documents the development of its peated house style on the way to its first ten-year-old single malt.
