Special Features:

Two casks previously used for different sherries shape this Mission Gold release. Distilled in 1995, the Tormore initially matured in Bourbon Hogsheads. The whisky then spent three years in an Oloroso sherry cask and a Pedro Ximénez sherry cask, each used for whisky maturation for the first time. Oloroso contributes a dry, fruity cask influence, while Pedro Ximénez brings richness and sweetness. Only after this separate finishing period were the two whiskies married.

Murray McDavid bottled the whisky in 2022 after a total of 26 years of maturation. The release comprises 637 bottles, each containing 0.7 litres at 44.1% alcohol. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. It comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, alcohol-soaked raisins meet allspice and pronounced malt notes.
• Palate: The palate brings together orange chocolate, vanilla and apple.
• Finish: Light caramel notes, sweet spice and oak linger on the finish, accompanied by a hint of ash.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tormore stands in the Cromdale Hills in Scotland’s Speyside region. Built in 1959, the distillery is notable for its distinctive architecture. For decades, much of its whisky went into blends, while Tormore was only occasionally available as a single malt. The distillery was designed to produce an elegant, fruit-led style.

Murray McDavid is responsible for the cask selection and this independent bottling. Wine specialists Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin founded the company in 1994 together with Gordon Wright of Springbank. Their wine expertise shaped its work with casks previously used for different drinks, particularly wine casks. Today, the former Coleburn Distillery in Speyside is home to the bottler, whose work centres on carefully chosen further maturation of selected whiskies.
