Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 57.6% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No
Special Features:
Full maturation in a first-fill Armagnac butt combines Tormore’s fruit-forward distillery character with the influence of a large-format French brandy cask. Distilled in June 2013, the single malt was bottled in March 2024 after ten years as a single-cask release at its natural cask strength of 57.6%. It is neither coloured nor chill-filtered, and the 0.7-litre bottle is presented in a dark green tube.
Ripe peach and apricot mingle with honey and vanilla. Light-coloured grapes, dried fruit and caramelised sugar broaden the fruity and sweet dimensions, while white pepper and oak provide structure. Nutty accents round out the character.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, ripe peach and apricot mingle with sweet honey and subtle vanilla.
- Palate: The palate reveals light-coloured grapes and apricots, accompanied by caramelised sugar and spicy pepper.
- Finish: The finish lingers, with oak and light-coloured fruit remaining present.
Distillery/Bottler:
Built in 1959, Tormore Distillery stands in Speyside’s Cromdale Hills. It was designed to produce an elegant, fruit-forward whisky whose distillery character is particularly reminiscent of juicy peach and pear, together with nutty richness. For many years, a large share of its production went into blends, while single-malt bottlings appeared less frequently.
Hart Brothers was founded in 1964 by Iain and Donald Hart as a wine and spirits wholesaler and Scotch whisky blender. Alistair Hart joined in 1975 and, as Chief Blender, took responsibility for sourcing rare vintage casks. The company allows selected malt and grain whiskies to mature further and decides only after careful tasting which casks will be released as single-cask bottlings. Hart Brothers independently bottled this Tormore in March 2024.
