Batch Two continues the historic Trade Mark X as a powerful, sherry-forward blend. James Eadie combined whisky from ten casks: eight components received a one-year finish in Oloroso sherry casks, while two came from refill hogsheads.

This limited release comprises 3,364 bottles. Here, 100 Proof means 100 Imperial Proof, equivalent to 57.1%. The whisky was bottled without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, Madeira cake, brandy-soaked raisins, roasted figs, pistachio ice cream and caramel mingle with sherry, peat smoke, apricot, vanilla, cinnamon and a light grassy note. A little water brings out stewed apples and cream.
• Palate: On the palate, poached pears, salted plums, green cardamom, cloves and grilled pineapple mingle with smoke, oak, sweet nuts, malt and dark chocolate. Apricot, honey and a hint of citrus round out the powerful impression.
• Finish: The long, elegant finish brings deeply caramelised toffee, buttery caramel and mandarin together with sherry fruit, oak and balanced smoke; fruity freshness and sweetness linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Scottish brewer James Eadie founded his brewing and bottling company in 1854. His family had a blended Scotch recipe that Eadie inherited from his father. The whisky was later served in more than 300 of the company's pubs, and in 1877 Eadie registered the distinctive X as a trademark.

Rupert Patrick, a great-great-grandson of James Eadie, revived Trade Mark X using historic business records and a surviving bottling from the 1940s. He worked with master blender Norman Mathison. For Batch Two, James Eadie composed and bottled the blend from malt and grain whiskies.

Facts:
