The 18-year-old Tullamore D.E.W. is a triple-distilled Irish single malt whose maturation combines four cask types. After 18 years in ex-bourbon casks, it is finished for at least six months in Oloroso sherry butts, port pipes and Madeira drums.

Its profile brings together malty sweetness, cinnamon and baked apple with vanilla, sponge cake and soft fruit. Caramelised fruit and a rich oak note complement dried fruit and toasted bread. Butterscotch, fruitcake and milk chocolate round out the rich, warming finish.

The bottle contains 0.7 litres, and the whiskey is bottled at 41.3%. It is chill-filtered, contains added colouring and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines malty sweetness, warm cinnamon and baked apple with dried fruit and peppery spice.
• Palate: The whiskey opens on the palate with soft fruit, followed by vanilla from its bourbon-cask maturation, toasted bread and fresh malt bread.
• Finish: The finish is rich and warming, with malty sweetness, cinnamon, baked apple and sponge cake lingering at length. Butterscotch, fruitcake and milk chocolate round out the closing notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Tullamore D.E.W. brand traces its roots to a distillery founded in 1829 in the Irish town of Tullamore. D.E.W. are the initials of Daniel Edmund Williams, who began working there as a stable boy at the age of 15 and became distillery manager at 25. The brand continues to bear both his name and that of the town, and the 18-year-old single malt is part of its range as an official bottling.
