Velier The Last Ward Barbados 2007 Rum
Special features: This 16-year-old rum honors the long-standing connection of the Ward family with the Mount Gay Distillery. It was created from 13 casks from the 2007 vintage, which were once owned by Frank Ward. After distillation in traditional pot stills, the rum aged for 16 years in selected bourbon barrels under the tropical climate of Barbados. During this time, 70% of the volume evaporated, resulting in remarkable intensity and complexity. The rum was neither colored nor sweetened and presents itself in its purest form.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Complex aromas of candied apricot, cardamom, nutmeg, and exotic fruits like mango and pomegranate, accompanied by a hint of fine wood.
Palate: Full-bodied and intense with notes of cane sugar, molasses, and geranium, refreshed by the taste of freshly squeezed oranges.
Finish: Long and full with flavors of sugarcane, roasted notes like coffee, spices like ginger and cinnamon, as well as floral and nutty nuances of walnut, hazelnut, and almond.
Distillery/Bottler: The Mount Gay Distillery, founded in 1703, is the oldest operating distillery in the world. Since 1918, the Ward family has been closely associated with the distillery. Velier, a renowned bottler, has honored the tradition and heritage of the Ward family with this release.
