First-fill tawny port barriques shape this 12-year-old Benrinnes bottling from batch 2 of the Whisky of Voodoo series. They lend a vinous character to its light fruit, honey and dark chocolate notes. Dried peach, nuts, oak spice and a delicate herbal note add further detail.

Brave New Spirits bottled Black Cat Bone at cask strength at 54.1%. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. The release comprises 837 bottles of 0.7 litres each and comes without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Dark red fruit, including berries and cherries, appears on the nose. Delicate spices and a scent reminiscent of a whisky warehouse follow, before honey and cloves emerge.
• Palate: The whisky initially feels soft on the palate. Red fruit gives way to dark chocolate before pronounced spice and pepper emerge.
• Finish: The finish is warming and long-lasting.

Distillery/Bottler:

Benrinnes stands on the slopes of Ben Rinnes in Speyside. Founded in 1826, the distillery was rebuilt at its present site after a flood. It ferments in wooden washbacks and condenses alcohol vapour in worm tubs—copper pipes running through water tanks. These methods contribute to the robust character of its spirit.

Brave New Spirits is an independent bottler founded in 2020 and based in Glasgow. For Whisky of Voodoo, its team selects whiskies and casks from different Scottish distilleries and releases them in small batches. Black Cat Bone brings together Benrinnes single malt and the influence of first-fill tawny port barriques.
