Serpent's Ember is Batch 3 in the Whisky of Voodoo range and is based on eleven-year-old single malt from Blair Athol Distillery. Brave New Spirits married whisky from first-fill rum hogsheads and second-fill Islay hogsheads. It was bottled at 53.2% without chill filtration or added colouring.

The aromatic spectrum ranges from sweet, malty and fruity notes to pepper, spicy oak and finely measured smoke. Red apples, confectionery, mineral and herbal notes, along with a hint of dying embers, add further facets to the profile.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, creamy butterscotch and honey combine with ripe peach and delicate vanilla, backed by a subtle smoky note.
• Palate: Full-bodied malt and sweet caramel feel velvety on the palate. Ripe peach, creamy vanilla, pepper and finely integrated smoke add fruit, spice and depth.
• Finish: In the long finish, spicy oak provides structure before giving way to lingering glowing campfire smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Blair Athol Distillery produces the single malt in Pitlochry, Perthshire, at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands. The distillery has operated since 1798. Water from the Allt Dour, unpeated malt and a short fermentation of around 50 hours shape its grainy, nutty and fruity house style.

Independent bottler Brave New Spirits released Serpent's Ember as part of its Whisky of Voodoo range. The range comprises selected single malts and single grains in small batches. Unusual casks and creative marriages of whiskies from different cask types play a central role, with the whiskies bottled at natural strength or cask strength.
