Wolfburn Northland carries an eight-year age statement and was matured in American oak quarter casks. The slow production process and this cask maturation shape its smooth, warming and balanced character. Distillation, maturation and bottling all take place in Thurso.

The whisky is double-distilled and only very lightly peated at 5 ppm. It is bottled at 46%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Northland represents the first chapter in Wolfburn's modern history. This eight-year-old expression is part of the distillery's core range.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose initially appears sweet, combining fruity notes with a fresh sea breeze. Citrus freshness, hints of cereal and a delicate trace of peat smoke emerge in the background.
• Palate: Sweet and nutty tones come to the fore on the palate, while grape and honey remain in the background. Floral aromas are accompanied by a hint of dried fruit and spices.
• Finish: The gentle, sweet tones gradually fade in the finish; at the very end, a delicate trace of mild peat smoke settles over them.

Distillery/Bottler:

William Smith founded the original Wolfburn Distillery on the outskirts of Thurso in 1821, naming it after the watercourse from which it drew its water. The present distillery was established in 2012 just a short distance downstream from the historic site; on 25 January 2013, new make spirit flowed from its stills for the first time.

Wolfburn makes its whisky by hand in Thurso, from milling the malt through to bottling, without automated production. A long fermentation is followed by gentle distillation before the whisky matures in the distillery's dark, cool warehouses.
