Wolfburn Northland develops its character through maturation in American oak Quarter Casks. These small casks previously held Islay whisky. Their internal wood surface area is greater relative to the volume of liquid than in larger casks, strengthening the wood's influence. The classic Northland bottling carries no age statement and combines a light Highland style with maritime freshness and gentle smoke.

The miniature contains 0.05 litres, offering Northland in a small tasting size. The whisky is bottled at 46%, without added colouring or chill filtration. Its aromas range from fruit and grain to coastal air and subtle peat smoke.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers sea air, zesty lemon and overripe fruit. Gentle oatmeal notes and a subtle impression of a peat fire add to the aromas.
• Palate: On the palate, sweet grapes and honey sit alongside delicate chocolate and roasted coffee notes. A fine peat spiciness complements these impressions.
• Finish: The finish is balanced, medium in length and crisp, with toffee and honey. The gentle sweetness gradually fades, with a delicate wisp of peat smoke settling over it at the very end.

Distillery/Bottler:

Wolfburn Distillery is situated in Thurso in the northern Highlands and belongs to Aurora Brewing Ltd. The new distillery was built in 2012 near the historic site of its predecessor, which had been closed since the 19th century. The first new make spirit, the distillate before maturation, flowed on 25 January 2013.

The water comes from the Wolf Burn, which also supplied the original distillery. A long fermentation is followed by gentle distillation in copper pot stills. The whisky then matures in dark, cool warehouses. From milling to bottling, Wolfburn works by hand and without automation at its Thurso site; Northland also matures and is bottled there.
