Special Features:

Echoes centres on the interplay between fruit and smoke. The starting point was a Tullabardine matured in a former Burgundy wine cask. The aim was to integrate its pronounced ripe fruit notes without obscuring the distillery character. Mature grain whiskies helped balance the wine influence, allowing subtler spice and vanilla to emerge.

The six components are Loch Lomond Single Malt, Highland Grain, Girvan, Cameronbridge, a Speyside Single Malt and Tullabardine. After blending, the whisky rested for 45 days in two separate casks: an old Sherry Butt and a Hogshead that had previously held peated whisky. The two portions were then reunited. This additional cask stage picked up on the composition’s fruit, wood and smoke notes. The name Echoes describes the recurrence of related flavours in different forms while drinking and in the finish.

The whisky is bottled at 47.3% alcohol in a 0.5-litre bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, the whisky evokes an apple pie fresh from the oven. Creamy malt sweets and a sweetish smoky note join in.
• Palate: On the palate, fresh apples combine with the sweetness of malted barley. Smoke runs through the balanced composition.
• Finish: Fruity and smoky impressions linger in the medium-length finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Woven Whisky Makers is a blending house in Leith, Edinburgh’s port district. At its studio, whiskies from different distilleries are brought together to create new compositions. Selection focuses primarily on the flavour and texture a sample can contribute to the intended blend; age, origin and a distillery’s reputation are not the main considerations in this assessment.

Woven sources its components from partner distilleries and whisky brokers, deliberately including long-matured grain whiskies. Its work does not end with deciding the blending ratios: the blends are given time to marry before bottling. Woven uses neither chill filtration nor colouring and selects the alcohol strength according to the flavour achieved. Echoes grew out of a desire to introduce the possibilities of Blended Scotch to people who mainly drink single malts.
