For Experience N.20 Friends in the North, Woven combines Nordic whiskies with Scottish single grain whisky. The disclosed recipe comprises 20.58% alder-smoked Kyrö Rye from Finland, 4.80% unpeated High Coast malt and two Swedish Agitator malts: 10.43% from a Chateau Margaux cask and 6.86% lightly peated whisky from a Wave-Stave cask. Norway contributes 9.33% Feddie Ocean from an ex-Islay quarter cask and 13.72% from an ex-bourbon cask. North British single grain from Scotland accounts for the remaining 34.29%.

The components bring different production methods to the blend. Kyrö smokes its rye over alder wood. The High Coast whisky matured in a first-fill American oak cask; pronounced temperature changes at the distillery encourage interaction between the whisky and the wood. Agitator uses vacuum distillation. Its Chateau Margaux cask contributes wine-cask influence, while cuts in the Wave-Stave cask increase the whisky’s contact with the wood. Feddie Ocean operates on a remote island. Woven composed the blend on 20 August 2024, then allowed the whiskies to marry for 15 days in an inert vessel. The bottling comprises 2,035 bottles at 47% alcohol.

Coastal salt and rye bread meet fresh herbs, juicy fruit, vanilla and gentle smoke. The cask components add oak spice and wine-cask tannins, while the Wave-Stave whisky contributes a lush texture.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Seaweed and salty sea air appear on the nose, followed by lemon zest and white chocolate. Gentle smoke and a trace of icing sugar complete the impression.
• Palate: On the palate, balanced smoke joins citrus zest, vanilla, sea salt and flaky, buttery pastry.
• Finish: The finish is long and warming, with subtle spice. The smoke fades relatively quickly, leaving a gentle sweetness.

The whiskies in this bottling come from Kyrö Distillery in Finland, High Coast Distillery and Agitator Distillery in Sweden, Feddie Ocean Distillery in Norway, and North British Distillery in Scotland. Woven is a blending house rather than a distillery. Its team develops recipes using whiskies from different producers at its studio in Leith.

Freshwater Spirits Company Ltd is the company behind Woven Whisky. For its small batches, each developed as a distinct recipe, the blending house sources casks from distilleries and brokers. Some of the storage, marrying and bottling takes place at facilities operated by other whisky companies.
