Special Features:

HEMISPHERES combines two whiskies from opposite hemispheres: 26% mānuka-smoked single malt from Thomson Whisky near Auckland and 74% single grain from the North British Distillery in Edinburgh. The malt gives the blend its herbal smoke, while the grain lends it body and softness. Orange, honey and clove complement the smoke, with incense and a nutty note adding further accents.

Woven composed Batch 1 on 28 July 2023, then allowed the two whiskies to marry for 80 days. The batch comprises 2,100 bottles of 0.7 litres each, bottled at 51.4% alcohol. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, gentle mānuka smoke and herbs mingle with citrus peel and cereal notes.
• Palate: The whisky feels oily on the palate. Smoke accompanies orange, clove, honey and malt, while a nutty note emerges at mid-palate.
• Finish: The long finish softens and rounds out, with herbs and gentle smoke lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

Thomson Whisky makes the mānuka-smoked malt near Auckland; the North British Distillery in Edinburgh supplies the Scottish grain whisky. At Thomson, Matt built his own distillation equipment. Woven chose the grain whisky from Edinburgh to preserve the New Zealand malt’s character in the blend while giving it a soft, substantial foundation.

Freshwater Spirits Company Ltd is the company behind Woven Whisky. It runs a blending studio in Leith, sources whisky from distilleries and brokers, and develops its blends there. Woven also uses other whisky companies’ facilities for storage, marrying and bottling.
