Special Features:

Woven Superblend Batch 1 combines six Scottish malt and grain whiskies with five whiskies from England, Ireland, Germany and the USA. They include a nine-year-old single malt from The English Distillery Co., an eleven-year-old George Dickel Sour Mash, a seven-year-old MGP Indiana Bourbon, a three-year-old St. Kilian single malt and a thirteen-year-old Irish whiskey. The components were blended in November 2022, and Batch 1 comprises 9,800 bottles. The whisky is bottled at 46.1% in 0.7-litre bottles. It is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

The Scottish components range from three-year-old Highland grain whisky made from wheat or malted barley to 22-year-old Loch Lomond Organic Grain made from wheat. A small proportion of peated Speyside blended malt adds a hint of smoke; overall, the Superblend is only lightly smoky. Its fruity, malty character brings together apple and pear with dried mango, vanilla and cinnamon.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers pear drops, sugar-coated tangy apple chews and dried mango, followed by cream pastries, vanilla soy yoghurt, malted milk and raw barley.
• Palate: The whisky feels light on the palate, with notes reminiscent of tarte Tatin and vanilla cream. Elderflower, gooseberry and a little cinnamon pastry follow.
• Finish: The medium-length finish fades with apple and warming cinnamon.

Distillery/Bottler:

Woven Whisky Makers develops its blends in a studio in Leith, Edinburgh’s historic whisky district. The company does not distil the components itself. Instead, it selects whiskies from different producers for the contribution each makes to the intended flavour profile. A partner outside Scotland blends the chosen whiskies to Woven’s recipe and enables the Superblend to be bottled.

Leith’s port and warehouses made it a centre of whisky blending for many years. Woven draws on that tradition while deliberately looking beyond Scotland for the Superblend’s components.
