Special Features:

Madeira casks shape this limited release of Zuidam's Oude Genever. Its grain base consists of malted barley, maize and rye. The genever was distilled on 22 December 2021 and matured for three years before being bottled on 14 April 2025 as Special #39.

This bottling retains its natural copper colour and is not chill-filtered. It has an alcohol content of 38% and comes in a 1 litre bottle without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, apricot and peach mingle with a gentle note of vanilla cream.
• Palate: Orange, caramel and honey come forward on the palate, accompanied by mild herbal notes.
• Finish: The medium-length finish carries peach and orange through, adding a subtle chocolate sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam is a Dutch family distillery in Baarle-Nassau whose history began in 1975. Fred and Patrick van Zuidam developed the house recipes. The distillery produces its spirits and extracts in-house and uses natural raw materials without artificial fragrances, colourings or flavourings. Alongside genever, its range includes whisky, gin and liqueurs.

Zuidam's regular three-year-old Oude Genever illustrates how the distillery brings grains and botanicals together: its grain spirit undergoes three distillations in small pot stills. A portion is then distilled a fourth time with juniper berries, liquorice root and anise seeds. The components are subsequently combined. Special #39 gains its distinctive character from maturation in Madeira casks.
