Special Features:

Hidden Loot combines the bourbon-cask maturation of a Panamanian rum with subsequent flavouring in France. After ageing in Panama, the rum travels to the French Atlantic coast, where spices and natural flavourings are added. This gives the matured rum base its sweet, fruity character with delicate spice.

This bottling contains no colouring and has an alcohol content of 40%. It comes in a matt-black bottle with a silver-and-red label featuring a globe motif. Hidden Loot can be enjoyed neat or over ice and also works in long drinks with ginger beer and cocktails with citrus juices.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla, ripe banana and grated coconut shape the nose. They are joined by the character of aged rum, delicate cardamom and a light note of old wood.
• Palate: The rum is soft, sweet and silky on the palate. Orange and vanilla mingle with cocoa beans and milk chocolate. Toasted coconut and almond add to the flavour, while a subtle chilli heat provides a spicy contrast.
• Finish: Vanilla and chocolate linger through the long finish. Cardamom and chilli fade with restrained spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Famille Naud continues a distilling tradition developed over several generations in the Cognac region. One of its influential figures was liqueur maker Emile Perrier, who founded the Distillerie du Donjon in Pons in 1923. His experience with flavoured spirits provides the historical background to the family's diverse range today, which includes Hidden Loot alongside Cognac.

The distillery in Pinthiers occupies a former grain mill on a small island between two branches of the Seugne. It houses five traditional copper Charentais stills, each with a capacity of 2500 litres. Jean-Michel Naud, a trained oenologist, and his son Pierre brought them back into operation in 2017. These stills are used for the family's Cognac production; the rum base for Hidden Loot, by contrast, comes from Panama and is enhanced with flavourings in France.
