Long maturation in Panama and the influence of American white oak shape this Spanish-style rum. It is made from sugarcane molasses distilled in continuously operating columns. The rum then matures for 21 years in Panama in casks previously used for American whiskey. Sweet fruit, oak and spice sit alongside one another: dried fruit is joined by tropical fruit, dark cane sugar and subtle herbal notes.

Rum Nation presents this bottling in its matt-black Black Decanter, with light-coloured lettering and a star motif. The accompanying black gift box features a world map design. The rum is bottled without added colouring at 42% in a 0.7-litre bottle. Served neat at room temperature, it offers an opportunity to explore the interplay of sweetness, fruit and wood.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals intense raisin and tropical fruit aromas, with brown cane sugar and dates. Oak and tobacco add to the dark aromatic character, joined by delicate vanilla notes.
• Palate: The rum is creamy and full-bodied on the palate. Sweet sugarcane notes combine with dates, raisins, honey, dried figs and dark chocolate. With a little time, coffee, black tea, cinchona bark and bergamot emerge. Cinnamon and pepper complement the fruit, accompanied by hints of cloves and herbs.
• Finish: The long, warm finish becomes increasingly spicy, showing cinnamon and delicate pepper. Oak and tannins balance the lingering sweetness, while the finish feels dense and soft.

Distillery/Bottler:

Rum Nation is an independent rum bottler founded in 1999 by Italian oenologist Fabio Rossi under the umbrella of Rossi & Rossi in Treviso. The inspiration came from old rum casks from Guyana and Jamaica that Rossi discovered in a Scottish whisky warehouse. Origin remains central to the selection, while historical postage stamp motifs on the labels connect each rum to its country of origin.

The brand has belonged to Denmark's Mac Y Group A/S since November 2018. Fabio Rossi continues to advise on selection, and Rossi & Rossi continues its work on behalf of the new owner. The range includes rums from different parts of the Caribbean and Latin America. Some receive a finish in Europe after tropical maturation, while others mature entirely in their country of origin. Panama 21 Year Old also benefits from the expertise of Cuban rum masters who brought their experience in rum production and blending to Panama.
