An Oloroso sherry finish adds another dimension to this twelve-year-old Kinghaven rum from Fiji. Distilled from molasses in a pot still in 2009, it initially matured in tropical conditions before further maturation in Europe. A First Fill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead provided the final stage.

The rum combines a pronounced sherry influence with a distinctive fermentation-driven character. Smoky wood notes, tropical fruit, honey notes and a creamy texture shape its flavour, while subtle coffee notes add a darker accent. Smögen Whisky AB bottled this single cask release in 2021 at 58% in 0.5-litre bottles. The rum is not chill-filtered and contains neither added sugar nor colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is fresh and fruity, accompanied by lightly smoky wood notes and grass. With a little time in the glass, the fruit notes become more distinct.
• Palate: The rum feels creamy on the palate. Smoky wood notes combine with fruit and a hint of coffee.
• Finish: Smoky wood notes and fruit linger through the medium-length finish, accompanied by a light coffee note.

Distillery/Bottler:

The spirit comes from South Pacific Distilleries in Lautoka, Fiji. Founded in 1980, the distillery processes local molasses and operates both pot stills and column stills. It is now part of Paradise Beverages and is also known for the rum brands Ratu and Bati. A pot still distillate was selected for this Kinghaven.

Kinghaven is the rum range of Smögen Whisky AB. The Swedish company was founded in summer 2009 in Bohuslän on the west coast. Its distillery, warehouse and bottling operations are located on the Ståleröd farm, southeast of Hunnebostrand. Smögen makes its whisky entirely by hand and in small batches, with a focus on single casks and limited releases. For Kinghaven Fiji, the company handles the further maturation and bottling of the rum produced in Fiji.
