HEIMAT VOGELFREI Botanical uses plant distillates and extracts rather than alcohol as its aromatic foundation. Juniper and lavender undergo steam distillation, producing hydrosols: aromatic, water-based distillates. Other distillates and macerates contribute to the texture and finish. Lemon verbena, thyme and meadow sage give the blend its fresh, Mediterranean herbal character.

This vegan, sugar-free gin alternative contains 0.0% alcohol and comes in a ceramic bottle with a bird motif and a volume of 0.5 litres. It is particularly suited to mixing with tonic water or as a base for alcohol-free cocktails. Once opened, the bottle should be refrigerated and its contents consumed within four weeks.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pronounced thyme and sage notes lead the nose. Delicate juniper, floral lavender and a hint of ginger add to the aroma, rounded out by a fresh citrus touch.
• Palate: The palate reveals gentle acidity and delicate herbal notes. Thyme and sage define the flavour, accompanied by the freshness of lemon verbena and a subtle ginger bite. The texture remains light, without the oily viscosity of an alcoholic spirit.
• Finish: A gentle ginger bite lingers on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

HEIMAT Distillers makes its products in Schwaigern, Baden-Württemberg. The company was founded in 2017, with Marcel Eßlinger, Rouven Richter and Raphael Heiche behind it. It uses water from a cistern to cool the still and sources regional ingredients wherever possible.

The idea for VOGELFREI arose in early 2019 during preparations for a television shoot. As the new equipment was not yet authorised for alcohol distillation, the team distilled its gin botanicals with demineralised water. The aromatic result led to the development of a distinct alcohol-free blend. VOGELFREI Botanical launched in 2020.
