Special Features:
Aperol combines orange fruit with herbs and carefully balanced bitterness. Its bright orange colour is as much a part of its character as its secret recipe, which has remained unchanged since its creation. Production involves extracting aromas from fruit, herbs and roots through infusion; these include sweet and bitter oranges, rhubarb and gentian.
This large bottle contains 3 litres of Aperol at 11% alcohol and comes with a pouring spout and gift packaging. The spout makes serving from the large bottle easier. To make an Aperol Spritz, combine three parts Prosecco, two parts Aperol and one part soda water over ice, then add a slice of orange.
Alongside orange and herbs, the palate also reveals woody and slightly salty impressions. The texture feels velvety and rounded, while orange and wood notes linger on the palate.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Lively orange notes meet herbal aromas on the nose. A hint of vanilla complements the bouquet.
- Palate: On the palate, juicy orange and fresh herbs combine in a bittersweet taste. Woody and slightly salty impressions add to this. The texture feels velvety and rounded, while orange and wood notes linger on the tongue.
- Finish: Gentle bitterness and the sweetness of oranges remain on the finish, accompanied by pleasant spice and lingering herbs.
Distillery/Bottler:
Brothers Luigi and Silvio Barbieri developed Aperol in their father's liqueur business. They worked on the recipe for seven years before the aperitif was introduced at the international fair in Padua in 1919. Aperol found an early place in Italian aperitif culture, particularly in Padua's cafés and Venice's traditional bars.
The familiar Aperol Spritz recipe emerged in the 1950s. Gruppo Campari later acquired the brand and expanded its international presence. Aperol's composition remained secret and unchanged throughout: an infusion of selected fruit, herbs and roots continues to form its foundation.
