Special Features:

This limited edition is the Oloroso release in Càraid Ìleach, a series of two companion bottlings. Edition No. 1 was matured fully and exclusively in Oloroso sherry quarter casks, while the second edition in the series uses PX sherry casks.

At around 50 litres, the quarter casks used are comparatively small. Their internal wood surface area is greater in relation to the volume of whisky, resulting in more intensive contact between the whisky and the cask wood. In this bottling, the spicy, dark-fruit influence of the Oloroso casks meets Ardnahoe’s powerful peat smoke.

Bottled in 2025, this edition comprises 2,510 bottles. The whisky was bottled at 50% in its natural colour and without chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, rich cocoa, dried orange peel and dark cherries meet the smoky aroma of cold campfire ash.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky reveals toasted walnuts, spiced fruitcake and a delicate note of nutmeg.
• Finish: The rich, lingering finish leaves delicate notes of leather and a gentle touch of Islay peat that slowly fades.

Distillery/Bottler:

Stewart Laing and his sons Andrew and Scott founded the Glasgow company Hunter Laing & Co. Ltd in 2013. They felt that the time had come to realise their long-held plan of establishing a distillery of their own. They found the site at Loch Ardnahoe in north-eastern Islay in 2015; the first distillation runs followed in October 2018, and cask number 001 was filled on 9 November that year.

At Ardnahoe, the malt is dried over peat smoke for around 20 hours. Fermentation lasting approximately 65 to 70 hours in Oregon pine washbacks produces a fruity wash. Slow distillation and unusually long, downward-sloping lyne arms then ensure prolonged contact with copper. In traditional worm tubs, the vapour condenses slowly in copper coils, giving the spirit additional texture and complexity.
