This collection shows how differently cask maturation can shape Auchentoshan’s house style. The gift pack contains American Oak and the twelve-year-old Auchentoshan, both at 40%, alongside Three Wood at 43%. Each miniature holds 0.05 litres, giving a total of 0.15 litres.

American Oak matures in American oak casks previously used for bourbon. The twelve-year-old Auchentoshan brings together ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. Three Wood broadens the range with Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, combining three different previous cask contents. This allows a direct comparison of vanilla and citrus, nutty and dark-fruit expressions from the same distillery.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: American Oak has aromas of vanilla and coconut, accompanied by lively citrus notes. The twelve-year-old Auchentoshan brings together sweet pastry and citrus fruit with nutty and green leaf notes. Three Wood reveals blackcurrants, plums and raisins alongside orange and brown sugar.
• Palate: American Oak is lively, combining vanilla cream with coconut and white peach. The twelve-year-old Auchentoshan is smooth, with sweet vanilla and subtle hints of hazelnut, mandarin and lime. Three Wood combines fruit with syrupy sweetness and hazelnut. Nuances of cinnamon and lemon, along with butterscotch, round out the flavour.
• Finish: American Oak finishes fresh and clean, with sugared grapefruit and a lingering hint of spice. Ginger shapes the slightly dry finish of the twelve-year-old Auchentoshan, leaving a pleasant nuttiness. Three Wood finishes smooth, lively and fruity. A sweet oak note lingers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Auchentoshan lies near Glasgow in the Scottish Lowlands. The distillery uses unpeated malted barley and distils every drop three times. During this process, the alcohol strength rises from around 8% in the fermented liquid to approximately 81%, before the spirit enters casks for maturation.

During mashing, the milled barley is combined with water at 63.5 °C to convert its starch into fermentable sugar. For subsequent maturation, Auchentoshan selects casks that previously held bourbon, sherry or wine. The combination of triple distillation and different previous cask contents shapes the distillery’s range.
