Special Features:
Three successive stages of maturation give Bache-Gabrielsen VSOP Triple Cask its name. The eaux-de-vie first mature in oak casks holding 350 or 400 litres before being brought together in larger wooden vats. Finally, the Cognac returns to small, previously used oak casks. This last stage focuses on slow oxygen uptake rather than further tannin extraction, giving the Cognac greater roundness and a silky texture.
The blend consists of eaux-de-vie from the Fins Bois and Petite Champagne crus, made exclusively from Ugni-Blanc grapes. They mature for at least four years in Limousin oak. The Cognac works equally well as a digestif or in cocktails. This version contains a 0.7-litre bottle at 40% alcohol in white gift packaging.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose brings together mature wood and vanilla with dried apricots and dates. Almonds and hazelnuts complement the fruity bouquet.
- Palate: On the palate, the fruitiness of Fins Bois meets the elegant character of Petite Champagne.
- Finish: Notes of banana and oriental spices linger on the finish.
Distillery/Bottler:
Bache-Gabrielsen's roots connect Norway with the Charente. Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen arrived in Cognac in 1903 and, together with his Norwegian friend Peter Rustad, took over the Cognac house A. Edmond Dupuy in 1905. Founded in 1852, that house became the basis of the Bache-Gabrielsen family business. Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen has led the house as its fourth generation since 2009.
Bache-Gabrielsen operates as a négociant house, carrying out its own maturation and blending. Its eaux-de-vie come exclusively from winegrowers who distil their own produce. The house selects, matures and blends these eaux-de-vie, tailoring the oak and the humidity of its cellars to the desired style. In 2015, three warehouse buildings were established in Louzac-Saint-André near Cognac: two for storage and one for blending. This enabled the house to bring all storage and maturation onto its own premises.
