Special Features:

Black Velvet Reserve Select Barrel Stock matures for ten years in selected oak casks. To make the blend, freshly distilled base whisky is combined with whisky that has already matured, then the two undergo further cask maturation together. Black Velvet calls this process Blended at Birth.

Alongside vanilla, caramel and oak, its flavour includes toasted nuts, malt, dark chocolate and a note of rye. The 1-litre bottling has an alcohol content of 40% and contains caramel colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, vanilla and caramel mingle with a hint of oak, spices and dried fruit.
• Palate: The whisky is soft and balanced on the palate, with caramel and vanilla alongside subtle spice and woody notes.
• Finish: The finish lingers, remaining soft and lightly sweet before fading with a pleasant warmth.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Black Velvet Distilling Company makes Black Velvet in Lethbridge, Alberta. Built in 1973, the facility brings distillation, cask maturation and bottling together at one site. Production includes distilling base whisky and blending it with matured rye whisky before further cask maturation.

The Black Velvet brand was launched in 1951. It owes its name to distiller Jack Napier, whom the whisky’s soft texture reminded of velvet. Today, Black Velvet is part of Heaven Hill Brands’ Canadian whisky portfolio.
