A finish in Chardonnay casks complements this Borderline's earlier maturation in Armagnac casks. Darroze thus takes its Gascon brandies beyond traditional cask maturation: after additional ageing in wine casks, they bear the designation Brandy Français rather than the protected Armagnac appellation. The Chardonnay edition combines fresh fruit notes with restrained oak spice.

This edition yielded 848 numbered bottles. The brandy has an alcohol content of 51% and is bottled without colouring or chill filtration in a 0.7-litre bottle. A yellow neck tag identifies the Chardonnay finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is very fresh. Citrus notes and tart green apples are accompanied by a little mint, while the alcohol remains unobtrusive.
• Palate: The palate reveals sweet fruit notes of strawberries, ripe, juicy nectarines and lychee. Subtle spicy oak stays in the background, while the alcohol feels well integrated.
• Finish: The flavours give way to a sweet, fairly long-lasting finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The story of Darroze begins in Jean Darroze's restaurant in Villeneuve-de-Marsan. There, his son Francis became acquainted with the wines and brandies of Gascony. In the late 1960s, Francis began seeking out small producers in Bas-Armagnac, selecting their spirits and overseeing their further maturation. Marc Darroze joined the family business in 1994 and continues this work today.

Around twenty estates contribute to the house's collection. Their spirits continue to mature in the cellars at Roquefort and Labastide d’Armagnac, where Darroze monitors their development. Working with small, traceable lots and preserving the distinctive character of individual estates shapes the traditional collection. With Borderline, the house extends its focus on selection and maturation to finishes in wine casks and casks previously used for other spirits.
