Bruichladdich 2011/2021 - 10 y.o. - Bere Barley

Special features: This single malt whisky is made 100% from the rare Bere barley, a six-row premium barley that is among the oldest in Scotland. The Bere barley was grown on the Dunlossit Estate on Islay and gives this whisky a unique character. After distillation in 2011, the whisky matured for 10 years in American oak barrels and was bottled in 2021. Bottled at 50% alcohol content, this whisky is presented at cask strength and without chill filtration or colorants.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Complex aromas of fresh citrus fruits, green apples, and floral notes, accompanied by a hint of oak and vanilla.
  • Palate: Powerful and rounded with notes of apricots, ripe peaches, and apple compote, complemented by sweet chocolate and lime accents as well as malty grain notes.
  • Finish: Long and delicate with hints of gingerbread, milk chocolate, marzipan, and creamy vanilla, followed by a fine maritime note and a touch of barley sugar.

Distillery/Bottler: The Bruichladdich Distillery was founded in 1881 by brothers Robert, William, and John Gourlay Harvey and is located on Loch Indaal on the Scottish island of Islay. It is known for its innovative methods and the use of traditional techniques. Bruichladdich places great importance on authenticity and transparency in the production of its whiskies.
