Elsburn The Harz

Special features: This single malt comes from the Hercynian Distilling Co., which has been combining traditional methods with long fermentation and experimental spirit in the Harz, the highest mountain range in Northern Germany, since 2002. Elsburn The Harz is made exclusively from regional barley and primarily matures in first and second-fill sherry hogsheads, with a smaller proportion in first-fill bourbon barrels. A limited edition of 5000 bottles emphasizes the character of this release.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Fresh aromas of apricot, red berries, and tropical fruits.
  • Palate: Malty sweetness with notes of raisins, spicy oak, as well as creamy vanilla and caramel.
  • Finish: Smooth and lingering with subtle nuances of light chocolate.

Distillery/Bottler: The Hercynian Distilling Co., also known as Hammerschmiede, was founded in 2002 in the Harz. The family distillery places special emphasis on artisanal production and regional raw materials. With a clear commitment to traditional whisky production and a sense of innovation, a diverse range has emerged, setting a new accessible standard with “The Harz.”
