Description

With The Real McCoy Rum, documentary filmmaker and brand founder Bailey Pryor and Foursquare Master Distiller Richard Seale bring the story of Bill McCoy to life. The pioneering "rum smuggler" of the Prohibition era was the first to legally sell his Caribbean rum from a sailboat – outside the then three-mile limit and thus in international waters.

McCoy also made a name for himself by never adulterating his rum with turpentine, wood alcohol, or prune juice. Instead of "booze," "hooch," or "red gut," McCoy offered genuine, high-quality rum: The Real McCoy.

In his honor, the rum is produced according to the Prohibition tradition at the Foursquare Distillery in Barbados: without the addition of sweeteners, flavors, or chemical stabilizers, but with the finest blackstrap molasses and pure spring water.

Distilled in small batches in a rare combination of copper pot and column stills, it is matured in heavily charred bourbon barrels or sherry casks. The result? A rum that was the first of its kind to be crowned "Supreme Champion" at the 2018 ISC.

The Real McCoy 12 yo matures extensively at a high angel's share in the tropical climate of Barbados. This smooth "sipping rum" combines complex wood and spice notes with dark chocolate, buttery caramel, and orange peel.
