Special Features:

Maturation in Bourbon Barrels and tawny port casks shapes this fourteen-year-old Tomatin. The port casks come from Symington Family Estates in Portugal and previously held tawny port for around fifty years. They give the whisky its soft, sweet, fruit-led character.

The Single Malt is bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Expressive red berries combine with honeyed sweetness and pronounced toffee notes to create a balanced nose.
• Palate: Notes of light-coloured fruit and nuts come through on the palate. The whisky is soft and sweet.
• Finish: The lingering finish remains smooth, with notes reminiscent of fruit salad.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tomatin was founded in 1897. Following substantial expansion to serve the blended Scotch market, the distillery had 23 stills by 1974 and was then the largest malt distillery in the world. In 2002, it removed some unused equipment, reducing the number of stills to twelve. This step accompanied a shift towards its own Single Malt range, with a soft, light and fruity house style.

Tomatin has its own cooperage as part of its cask operations. Cooper Allan Bartlett checks the casks before filling and repairs them when necessary. This in-house quality control allows the distillery to work directly with wineries, breweries and other distilleries, as well as cooperages. Its relationship with Symington Family Estates is one example of this direct cask sourcing.
