For VS Sélection, Vallein Tercinier blends eaux-de-vie from the two Cognac crus Fins Bois and Bons Bois. Composed by the cellar master, the blend matures exclusively in oak casks for at least three years. French oak gives the Cognac its rounded character, with fruit and vanilla notes. It is bottled at 40% alcohol in 0.7-litre bottles.

Its combination of fruit notes, vanilla and creamy texture can be explored neat; the Cognac also works well over ice or with tonic and chilled water. It is suitable for cocktails too. The VS won gold at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London in 2018 and at the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco in 2022.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, apple, peach, pear, plum and grape mingle with dried fruit. Floral notes and vanilla complement the fruity bouquet. A very slight metallic hint accompanies the powerful aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, the Cognac recalls sweetened apple sauce with cinnamon and sultanas. Beneath this are creamy vanilla, candied orange, juicy pear and kiwi.
• Finish: Fruit notes and vanilla linger through the medium-length finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Vallein Tercinier is based at the Domaine des Forges in Chermignac. Louis Vallein acquired the estate in 1791; Georges Vallein established the trading house around 1850. As an owner, distiller and merchant, he laid the foundations for the family's Cognac business. His son Paul developed his own blends and expanded bottled sales.

Production remains closely tied to Chermignac: every stage from distillation to bottling takes place there. The family's history is also one of distilling and blending. After Robert Tercinier joined the business in 1947, the distillery's eight stills supplied both the family house and other Cognac merchants for decades. In the 1990s, his children Louis and Catherine took responsibility for production and trade respectively.
