Baked apple, cinnamon, vanilla and orange give this gin its Christmas character. Juniper complements the fruity and spicy notes without taking centre stage. The recipe grew out of a search for typical Christmas flavours, with customer requests for a suitable seasonal spirit providing further inspiration.

The botanicals are macerated and distilled separately. This allows the time during which the alcohol extracts their flavours to be tailored to each ingredient. The individual distillates are then blended according to the recipe. The Christmas Gin is bottled at 42% in 0.5-litre bottles.

Its flavour profile suits winter long drinks and cocktails. For a festive gin and tonic, combine 0.06 litres of gin with 0.02 litres of apple juice and 0.15 litres of tonic water; a cinnamon stick and a dried orange slice complete the drink.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Baked apple and cinnamon lead the sweet-smelling nose. Vanilla and orange add further notes, while the juniper remains subtle.
• Palate: The alcohol is clearly noticeable on the first sip. Juniper, vanilla and cinnamon combine with fruity notes of baked apple and orange to create a rounded, gently sweet taste.
• Finish: A slight orange bitterness meets the gentle sweetness of baked apple on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Destille Kaltenthaler is based in Westhofen in Rheinhessen. The family business has its roots in winegrowing and began making liqueurs and fruit brandies under the current distiller’s grandfather. Today, distiller Felix Georg Kaltenthaler runs the company in its third generation.

Alongside its own brands, the distillery develops and produces spirits for other companies. Its range includes gin, liqueurs, fruit brandies and rum. Felix Georg Kaltenthaler developed the Christmas Gin together with Roger Breitenegger, drawing inspiration from Christmas markets when choosing the ingredients.
