Special Features:

Whole, freshly roasted cocoa beans form the basis of this chocolate liqueur. Zuidam steeps them in alcohol immediately after roasting and leaves them to macerate for eight to nine months. This extended maceration draws the flavours from the beans to produce a rich cocoa extract.

Once separated from the cocoa beans, the extract is blended with Bourbon vanilla extract, sugar and French Cognac. The generous quantity of cocoa beans gives the liqueur its pronounced dark chocolate flavour. It contains no added fragrances, colourings or flavourings and is offered at 24% alcohol in a bottle containing 0.7 litres.

The liqueur can be enjoyed neat at room temperature or lightly chilled. It also works well poured over vanilla ice cream, in chocolate mousse or as the chocolate component in cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Dark chocolate and freshly roasted cocoa beans lead the nose. Subtle vanilla and a hint of roasted nuts accompany an almost savoury note.
• Palate: The liqueur feels thick, smooth and creamy on the palate. Cocoa bitterness balances the sweetness, while dark chocolate is accented by nuances of milk chocolate and a little caramel. The alcohol is well integrated, without a burning sensation.
• Finish: Dark chocolate lingers with lasting intensity. The aftertaste is warm and creamy.

Zuidam is an independent family distillery in Baarle-Nassau in the Netherlands. The company produces and processes its distillates and extracts on its own premises. Alongside liqueurs, its range includes genever, gin and whisky.

Natural ingredients underpin production at Zuidam, which uses no artificial fragrances, colourings or flavourings. In Chocolat Liqueur, this approach is particularly evident in the months-long extraction of whole cocoa beans in-house and the use of genuine Bourbon vanilla pods from Madagascar.
