Special Features:

Special No. 36 combines Korenwijn production with ten years of maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. Zuidam distilled the genever on 12 May 2014 and bottled it on 15 May 2024. The release comprises 1,376 bottles, each containing 1 litre at 38% alcohol. The genever is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

The grain base consists of equal parts corn, rye and malted barley. The resulting spirit undergoes four distillations in pot stills. A portion is then distilled once more with juniper, liquorice and aniseed. Only then are the grain spirit and botanical distillate blended together and put into Oloroso casks to mature.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dried fruit combines with notes of almond.
• Palate: The genever is full-bodied on the palate. Sweetness and spice are balanced, with oak adding a subtle accent.
• Finish: The velvety finish lingers for a long time.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam Distillers is an independent family business in Baarle-Nassau in the Netherlands. The family produces its distillates and extracts in its own distillery and processes them further on site. Alongside genever, the range includes gin, whisky and liqueurs. Zuidam uses no artificial fragrances, colourings or flavourings.

For this Korenwijn, Zuidam handles distillation, cask maturation and bottling. The distillery combines grain spirit distilled several times with a separately produced botanical distillate, then allows the blend to mature in casks for an extended period.
