Special Features:

Moscatel cask maturation distinguishes this three-year-old special bottling from Zuidam. The distillery uses malted barley, rye and maize for Special No29. Its fruit-led character brings together summery stone fruit, floral notes and sweet accents.

The genever was distilled on 18 March 2019 and bottled on 23 April 2022. The release comprises 3,711 bottles, each containing 1 litre at 38% alcohol. It retains its natural colour and is not chill-filtered. The handwritten label bears edition number 29.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Delicate white rose notes accompany white grapes, green apple, peach and apricot. With a little time, subtle aromas of lightly toasted almonds, honey and vanilla unfold.
• Palate: The genever is warm and full-bodied on the palate. Apricots and peaches mingle with hints of warm peach cake and lemon meringue tart. Fresh oranges and white chocolate follow.
• Finish: The medium-length finish reveals fresh peach and apple notes, closing with white chocolate and orange.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam Distillers is an independent family business in Baarle-Nassau in the Netherlands, now run by the second generation. The distillery produces its distillates and extracts in-house and processes them further on site. Alongside genever, its range includes gin, liqueurs and whisky. No artificial aromas, colours or flavours are used.

The house's unaged Oude Genever illustrates how Zuidam combines grain spirit with botanical distillates: its grain spirit is distilled three times in a small pot still. A portion undergoes a further distillation with juniper, liquorice root and aniseed before the components are brought together. In Special No29, Moscatel cask maturation complements the combination of malted barley, rye and maize.
