From domestic political restrictions to international renown: Kavalan entered the whisky market late, after Taiwan's accession to the World Trade Organization in 2002. Prior to that, spirit production was subject to a state monopoly. Kavalan founder Tian-Tsai Lee wasted no time, and with the help of "Whisky Einstein" Dr. Jim Swan, the first new make flowed from the stills of the country's first private whisky distillery on March 11, 2006.
Since then, Kavalan single malts have risen like a meteor to the top of their category. Their distinctively fruity character is refined in high-quality casks from Europe and the USA, which are stored in the subtropical climate of Taiwan. Two single casks are now being released exclusively to the European market – and thus also to Kirsch customers.
The Kavalan Vinho Barrique spent seven intensive years of aging in wine barrels #W170210004C. The result is a complex and creamy richness of fruity notes. Raspberry and mango transition to cherry, accompanied by herbaceous-floral tones, roasted coffee, and pepper.
Smooth and full-bodied, the Kavalan Bourbon Cask combines pastry notes with sparkling hints of orange, ginger, and pepper, while salted caramel and tobacco add depth. Single Cask #B151023049A matured for nine years in Kavalan's five-story warehouse.
