Selected Riesling forms the base of this Belsazar edition. Its fruitiness combines with herbs and a mineral note to create a fruity, bitter vermouth. It is bottled at 16% alcohol in a 0.75-litre bottle.

Alongside pineapple and stone fruit, bitter orange, lime and a delicate elder note complete the aromatic range. Enjoy the vermouth well chilled, neat, over ice or as a spritz. Tonic water and a slice of grapefruit make suitable partners for a highball.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines pineapple, apricot and peach with peppermint and spring flowers. A hint of grapefruit adds to the clean, fresh impression.
• Palate: The palate reveals clearly defined fruit with mineral and delicately spicy touches. Light herbal notes recall thyme and basil.
• Finish: The fruitiness lingers for a long time, accompanied by the lingering bitterness of wormwood.

Distillery/Bottler:

Maximilian Wagner and Sebastian Brack founded Belsazar in Berlin in 2013. The brand combines its Berlin roots with vermouth production in Breisgau, on the edge of the Black Forest. Diageo acquired the company in 2018, following support from the Distill Ventures accelerator programme since 2014.

Belsazar's methods include macerating herbs, spices, flowers and peel in large glass demijohns to extract their aromas. The brand uses grape must for sweetness. It also refines its classic vermouth varieties with fruit brandies from the Schladerer family in the Black Forest.
