Don Julio 70 combines the cask maturation of an Añejo with a clear appearance and a fresh agave character. Made from 100% Blue Weber agave, the tequila is distilled twice and then matured for 18 months in American white oak casks. Charcoal filtration follows, bringing the agave flavour characteristic of a Blanco back to the fore.

Created to mark the 70th anniversary of Don Julio González’s work as a tequila producer, this release is regarded as the world’s first Cristalino Añejo. It demonstrates that a clear tequila can indeed be cask-matured: vanilla, honey and toasted oak accompany its smooth character. The 0.7-litre bottle at 35% alcohol comes in black gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Agave stands out clearly on the nose, accompanied by notes typical of an Añejo.
• Palate: The tequila feels soft and smooth on the palate. Vanilla, honey and toasted oak shape its flavour.
• Finish: Oak notes remain present at first before giving way to a clean, warm finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The story of Don Julio began in 1942 with Don Julio González and the La Primavera distillery in the highlands of Jalisco. Warm days, cool nights and volcanic, clay-rich soils shape agave cultivation in this region. Harvesting teams select each plant according to its maturity and condition rather than harvesting entire fields at once. They then remove the leaves by hand using a coa, the traditional harvesting tool.

Don Julio’s production methods include slowly cooking the agave in masonry ovens, fermenting with a proprietary yeast strain and distilling twice in pot stills. The Blue Weber agave comes both from the company’s own fields and from certified contract growers within tequila’s protected designation of origin.
