Special Features:
Fresh, hand-picked elderflowers give this gin liqueur its floral character. Its base is Edinburgh Classic London Dry Gin, which is flavoured with elderflowers and lemon juice. The flowers complement the citrus peel, mulberry and juniper notes of the base gin. Only natural ingredients are used for flavouring.
Elderflower was Edinburgh Gin's second liqueur. It was inspired by the abundant elderflowers that bloom in Scotland in May and June. Its floral sweetness pairs well with sparkling wine or light tonic, with a sprig of mint as a garnish. The liqueur contains 20% alcohol and comes in a 0.5-litre bottle without gift packaging.
The updated bottle presentation forms part of the range redesign introduced in 2023. The liqueurs received a coloured, foil-finished label border and a closure matched to each flavour. The packaging concept includes bottles made with 49% recycled glass, along with recyclable paper labels and aluminium caps.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Distinct floral elderflower aromas lead on the nose. Delicate hints of pear, peach and grapefruit peel complement the bouquet.
- Palate: The liqueur is delicate and silkily sweet on the palate, with a hint of citrus fruit.
- Finish: Delicate notes of honeyed summer fruits and citrus peel linger on the finish.
Distillery/Bottler:
Alex and Jane Nicol founded Edinburgh Gin in 2010, initially selling their gin from a van at gardening events. Today, the Edinburgh Gin Distillery is located in The Arches on East Market Street, in the heart of the Scottish capital's Old Town. The distillery combines production with a visitor centre offering tastings and classes in developing personal gin recipes, among other activities.
The current equipment includes two copper CARL stills, Lina and Annie, each with a capacity of 2000 litres. They have a swan neck, a side column with seven plates and a container for botanicals. The smaller 250-litre still, Matilda, is available for experiments. Alongside its large production stills, the distillery therefore has dedicated equipment for testing new botanical combinations.
