Special Features:

A brief period of cask maturation shapes Herradura Plata: after double distillation, the tequila rests for 45 days in American white oak casks. This gives it a pale straw colour and delicate vanilla notes, while agave remains at its heart. It is made exclusively from blue Weber agave.

The bottling contains 0.7 litres at 40% alcohol and comes in gift packaging. It can be enjoyed neat or over ice and also works well in a Margarita or Paloma.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, agave and herbs mingle with warm woody notes. A hint of vanilla rounds out the aromas.
• Palate: The palate offers a gentle sweetness with soft notes of roasted agave and oak.
• Finish: The finish is soft, fresh and clean.

Distillery/Bottler:

Casa Herradura was founded in 1870 in Amatitán, in the Mexican state of Jalisco. Herradura means horseshoe and became the current brand name in 1928. On its estate, the distillery combines agave cultivation with the production and bottling of its tequilas.

The agaves grow in the volcanic lowlands around Amatitán. After around six to eight years, the jimadores harvest the mature plants by hand and remove the leaves with a coa, a long-handled cutting tool. The exposed agave hearts are steam-cooked for 26 hours in masonry clay ovens. Once cooled, they are crushed to extract their juice.

For the three-day fermentation in open tanks, Casa Herradura uses naturally occurring yeasts from the surroundings of its estate and its fruit trees. Double distillation follows, and bottling takes place on site. The estate also makes use of circular processes: treated wastewater irrigates agave fields, spent agave hearts are used to produce biogas, and organic residues are composted.
