ThunderDonk Salted Caramel brings together New Zealand whisky and the flavour of salted caramel. Its base is made from two types of grain, with distillation and flavouring carried out in New Zealand. This whisky-based liqueur belongs to Scapegrace's flavoured ThunderDonk range. It contains 33% alcohol and is bottled without added colouring.

Caramel sweetness meets a subtle salty counterpoint and the warmth of whisky. Notes of caramel pastries, toffee and vanilla are joined by a light spiciness. The liqueur can be enjoyed neat or chilled. Salted pretzels and toffee pudding make suitable accompaniments; poured over ice cream or paired with a strong blue cheese, it also offers a combination of sweetness and salt.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals butterscotch and vanilla. A hint of sea air adds a fresh accent.
• Palate: On the palate, soft toffee and creamy caramel meet a subtle salty note. The mouthfeel is smooth and rounded, with the warmth of whisky accompanying the sweetness.
• Finish: Gentle vanilla lingers on the finish, accompanied by a restrained salty note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Scapegrace Distilling Co. is behind ThunderDonk. The New Zealand distillery is located in Central Otago beside Lake Dunstan, near Mount Pisa and on the 45th parallel. After around a decade of searching for a location, a facility was established here that brings every stage from grain to finished spirit under one roof. Its equipment includes copper pot stills from Speyside, alongside a cask warehouse in the Bendigo mountains. In addition to the flavoured ThunderDonk range, its portfolio includes single malt whisky, gin and vodka.
